Welcome to Year 5 and the marvellous Class Picasso! Time is moving on for your children now as they reach their 10th bithday and head towards the end of primary school. We have lots of work to complete this year so we will be getting our heads down and really focusing on our important learning- while having lots of fun of course!
During most days in Year 5, we will have English and maths in the morning and then topic and sport learning in the afternoon. On every other Friday we will have our Cr8 (create) morning where we will complete a fun art or DT project linked to our current topic.
Children in year 5 are extremely lucky as they will have their 8 week block of forest schools at one point during the year. This is an incredible opportunity to get to explore nature and develop outdoor survival skills with our fantastic forest school leader- Mr Saull-Hunt and his assistant Mrs Sinden. You will be notified in advance of when your child’s sessions will commence. Please see the Forest School tab to find out more.
Homework will be given out on a Friday and will be due in the following Wednesday. It is not long until your child goes to secondary school, where missed homework will be dealt with strictly. It is therefore very important that your child gets into good habits now so that the Year 7 expectations are not a shock to them. In addition to this, we would like the children to read at least four times a week for at least fifteen minutes each time.
The children will have two PE sessions a week on Tuesday and Friday. Both of these sessions will take place in the first session after lunch with the Tuesday session focused on games and Friday dedicated to dance or gymnastics. Although these will be our usual PE slots, please could you ensure that your child has their full PE kit in school on a Monday in case there is a timetable change.
Please pop in and see me any day after school if there is anything you would like to discuss or if you have any concerns. We are so excited about the fantastic year ahead!
